Computer vision start-up MotionLogic named a Propel-AIR 2026 finalist

NEWCASTLE, NSW - Manufacturing analytics company MotionLogic has been selected as one of seven finalists in Propel-AIR 2026, Australia's dedicated AI and robotics sprint delivered by the ARM Hub AI Adopt Centre. The company will now compete to work with MassRobotics in Boston, the global epicentre of robotics innovation, with a platform that measures the movement waste hiding in plain sight on factory floors.

The waste nobody measures

Manufacturers lose large amounts of productive time to activity that never reaches a report: waiting, repositioning, reloading, and excess motion between tasks. The global cost of factory non-productive time is estimated at $1.4 trillion a year (The True Cost of Downtime 2024). In MotionLogic's own evaluation footage, around 70 per cent of observed work time was logged as non-value-add motion. The problem is that this waste is invisible to standard reporting, because it is not actively being measured.

Alex McClung, the principal of MotionLogic, is a robotics designer and machine learning practitioner specialising in perception for robots and machines, with a decade of experience. "We've built an optical interpretation layer for ergonomics and productivity," said Alex. "It interprets the structure and events of manufacturing operations, looking at how items move over space and time."

MotionLogic uses fixed cameras to analyse worker movement as pose-tracked data, then classifies each moment as task-time or non-task-time, from preparation and repositioning through to tool-on time. The same system reads safety signals such as joint angles and material-tool interactions, surfacing ergonomic and injury risk as it goes. In shipyards or rail manufacturing facilities where robotics aren't turn-key, MotionLogic provides a Unified World Model for Continuous Improvement.

Moving to measurement

MotionLogic's target market is large-format manufacturers with extensive worker movement across big sites, in verticals such as aircraft manufacturing, shipbuilding, and machinery overhauls, where waste compounds and is hardest to catch by eye. The company estimates the total addressable market for computer vision in manufacturing analytics at $40 billion, growing at 20.6 per cent a year.

Growth plans

MotionLogic has implemented its platform at an ASX-listed company and is initiating a deployment with a multinational.

The software is applicable to sectors with complex assembly processes where motion inefficiencies translate directly to major operational costs.

The winner of Propel-AIR will travel to MassRobotics in Boston for a one-month residency, with access to leading robotics companies and world-class institutions like MIT and Harvard.
