ARM HUB's history

The origins of ARM Hub lie in one transformative project: teaching robots to see.

Driven to integrate AI and robotics into real-world production, a multi-year collaboration was launched between UAP, QUT, RMIT, and CSIRO, with funding support from the Innovative Manufacturing CRC.

The project focused on one of the most complex challenges in modern manufacturing: enabling robots to adapt to unique, constantly changing designs.

UAP, a global leader in public art and architectural fabrication, needed a solution to automate repetitive, labour-intensive tasks like polishing, without losing the flexibility required for customised production.

The result was ground-breaking. Through robotic vision and AI, UAP redefined its manufacturing operations, leading to boosts in productivity, reshoring of their global manufacturing capability to Brisbane, and onboarding 43 new Australian employees.

Throughout the four-year project, ARM Hub helped develop a roadmap for integrating robotics and assistive technologies into UAP’s business, with UAP investing $1.5 million into the vision.

The success of this work revealed a broader national opportunity: the need for an innovation hub that could help businesses across Australia adopt emerging technologies and compete globally.

That opportunity became ARM Hub.

Industrial Legacy

Northgate has long been one of Brisbane’s industrial heartlands, home to manufacturers whose skills and products shaped local and national industry for decades. Just down the road, the Golden Circle cannery has been operating since 1947, symbolising the suburb’s enduring role in food production and manufacturing.
