ARM Hub continues to grow, welcoming four new clients over the past couple of months as Queensland innovators turn to the Northgate precinct to develop, test and commercialise advanced technology.
Among the new arrivals is Brisbane robotics company ProxGrid, which is building autonomous drones to clean live powerline insulators. Its technology is designed to remove people from one of the energy sector’s most hazardous jobs, while helping network operators reduce outage, fire and maintenance risks. ARM Hub has previously featured ProxGrid’s work, with the company now using its Northgate base to build and test its hardware.
Joining ProxGrid are ZekiTek, ZekiGen units combine a vertical wind turbine, solar panels and energy storage to make and store power on site, which runs its ZekiCharge EV charging systems and ZekiPower mobile generators; also Astute Systems, a designs and builds rugged, AI-enabled computing and data-switching hardware for armoured vehicles; and finally Zabidou, whose LiDAR and AI system inspect precast concrete and steel components as they come off the production line, giving the construction industry a verified digital record of how each piece was built.
The new tenants reflect the breadth of innovation emerging across Queensland; from robotics and energy technology to supporting the defence and construction industries. Each will have access to ARM Hub’s engineering expertise, workshop and testing facilities, and its network of researchers, industry partners and investors.
ARM Hub Chief Executive Prof Cori Stewart said the growth showed the value of giving local companies a practical pathway from concept to commercial success.
“We’re really pleased to welcome these four companies to Northgate. ProxGrid is a good example of how this works. They were a Propel-AIR finalist, and now they’re building and testing drones for live power lines right here. That’s the practical pathway we want for every company that comes through the door.
“What I like about this group is the mix. We’ve got robotics and energy alongside defence and construction, and they all need the same things to scale: engineering support, room to build and test hardware, and the right people around them. And if we get that right, more of the jobs and investment stay here in Queensland, and the product goes out to the world.”
Located in Northgate, ARM Hub brings together industry, research and government to help Queensland businesses adopt AI, robotics and design-led manufacturing. The Hub has been supported by the Queensland Government and partners including QUT, and continues to play a role in building the state’s advanced manufacturing and technology capability.
With new companies joining its community, ARM Hub is helping ensure more Queensland ideas are developed, tested and scaled here at home.
